It is with great pleasure that we would like to share our progress with you on the #SmartWaterMeterChallenge campaign.
We currently have 326 schools online, and only a few left to go. Our cumulative savings are at a whopping 163 million litres of water, which is the equivalent of R14 million saved at the various municipal rates.
We have now started to assess the impact of the first round of “low-hanging fruit” maintenance performed at the schools, and we’re pleasantly surprised. For this first round of maintenance, we saved an average of R16,073 per month for schools where maintenance had reduced their leaks (64% of schools). For all schools assessed, the cumulative savings purely due to this maintenance were R2.01 million per month (which drops slightly to R1.971 million per month if we take into account the errant schools that regressed during the period due to carelessness).
We also plan to start a twitter campaign for the schools with consumption posters in the middle of September, so watch this space!
We would like to, once again, thank our generous sponsors for their support. For more information, and the tracking dashboard, visit www.schoolswater.co.za.
